Marshall County sits in Southern Middle Tennessee completely surrounded by six other counties. The county was actually formed in 1836 with Lewisburg as the county seat for the convenience of the citizens who were having to travel too far to a county courthouse to conduct their legal affairs, pay their county taxes, or voice their opinions about county government. The road to the state capitol in Nashville has always been within a day's journey, so Marshall County has been fortunate to have strong ties to state government and proudly boasts three former governors. We are currently represented at the state level by 65th District Representative Eddie Bass and Senator Bill Ketron of the 13th Senate District.
The County has for many years operated with an eighteen-member county commission with an elected chairman from the group. A county mayor now oversees the daily operations of county government with many elected officials serving in county offices. All of these offices have been outlined and/or detailed in the web pages included in our government section. Please contact the office specific to your personal needs.
The incorporated communities in our county each have a distinctive form of government which is explained on their web pages. For your convenience, the office of the mayor for each is listed.
